Homecoming at MHS isn't much different than probably most homecomings; dress up days, hallway decorating, crowing of a king and queen, pep rallies, class competitions, all culminating in a dance after the football game. Each of these activities gives students an opportunity to take on leadership roles and learn important lessons such as respect, responsibility, organization, teamwork, and honorable competition. All of these activities take time to organize and plan with students leading the charge for their respective classes. When done correctly, students can embrace school spirit and challenge others to step up their game and become a bigger part of the Milford High School story.
At MHS we are fortunate to be a 7-12 grade building and while the Jr High doesn't get to participate in every activity they do get to experience what Homecoming Week is. They also learn from the upper classmen what is appropriate behavior for this event. Our teachers and staff work hard at setting expectations for our students to live up to and work diligently to reinforce these values on a continual basis.
Ultimately, homecoming is about having fun and this year was no exception. MHS students fiercely competed in a class "coin war" competition for the right to have an entire week of open campus. In less than four days, over $2000 was raised for a new LED sign along Highway 6. The Jr High also got in the game and raised $300 so I would shave my head in a "Mo"Hawk and paint it purple. It is no surprise they raised the money in no time (see picture below).
I couldn't be more proud of our students and how they handled the chaos of the week. Everyday, I am honored to work with such amazing students who embrace the #milfordsoar spirit. With that said, I think I can wait another 11 months until we do this again...I'm tired :)
